George W.Govier, O.C., B.A.Sc., M.Sc., Sc.D., LL.D.(Hon.), Sc.D.(Hon.)

A native of Nanton, Alberta, where he was born in 1917, George Govier has probably been best known for his role as Chairman of the Alberta Energy Resources Conservation Board, a high profile role he served for many years with the full respect of the oil industry and the public.

In addition, however, Dr. Govier earned respect and distinction in the other aspects of his career as an engineer, as a scientist and as an administrator. He is a Life Member and past President of the Association of Professional Engineers, Geologists and Geophysicists of Alberta and a past National President of the Canadian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy. He is a Fellow of the Engineering Institute of Canada, of the Chemical Institute of Canada and of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers.

Dr. Govier has been active in research and is the author or co-author of over 60 technical papers. He is the senior author of an engineering text book on 'The Flow of Complex Mixtures in Pipes"

George Govier's achievements have been recognized by many distinguished awards including Officer of the Order of Canada. He currently works as an independent consultant with many prestigious clients in government and industry.
