
Illingworth "Buck" Kerr, C.M., LL.D., R.C.A.
Buck Kerr's paintings are represented in several institutional galleries across Canada and in New York City.
Born in Lumsden, Saskatchewan in August, 1905, he took his art training in Toronto, London, England and Provincetown, Mass., studying under artists such as Arthur Lismer, J.E.H. MacDonald, Fred Varley J.W. Beatty and Hans Hofmann.
For many years Mr. Kerr was Head of the Art Department of the Institute of Technology and Art in Calgary (subsequently the Alberta College of Art).
He currently paints in a studio constructed at the rear of his home in central Calgary.
Illingworth Kerr's awards include the B.C. Artist's medal for best water colour, 1945; Canadian Council Fellowship, 1960; Honorary Doctorate, University of Calgary, 1973; Gold Medal National Award for Painting and Related Arts, University of Alberta, 1975; Member of the Royal Canadian Academy, 1974; and Member of the Order of Canada, 1982.
