Norman L. Kwong

Normie Kwong was born and raised in Calgary and with his wife Mary has raised four sons here. He distinguished himself in football, playing in the Canadian Football League (13 years)- with Calgary (3 years) and Edmonton (10 years).

The Edmonton Eskimos won six Grey Cup championships during Normie's time with the team. He, himself, was All Canadian Fullback five times; a two-time Schenley Award winner, Most Outstanding Canadian in 1955 and 1956 and Canadian Athlete of the Year in 1955. He held over 30 records when he retired from football. Mr. Kwong is in the Canadian Sports Hall of Fame, CFL Hall of Fame and Alberta Sports Hall of Fame.

Since retiring from a player's role in sports, Mr. Kwong has maintained an active interest not only in sports, but in community affairs. He is one of the owners of the Calgary Flames hockey club.

In 1979-80 Mr. Kwong was the National Chairman of the Canadian Consultative Council on Multiculturism. He has served as Honorary Chairman of the Easter Seal Campaign (Calgary).

As the self-proclaimed "Living Legend" of Canadian football, Normie Kwong has entertained many sports followers across Canada as a Master of Ceremonies and After-Dinner Speaker.
