Grant MacEwan, O.C., B.S.A., M.S., LL.D.

Grant MacEwan is a man of many dimensions. Born in Manitoba in 1902, he has lived a full life of over 80 years and still maintains an active schedule that would put many younger people to shame.

Raised on a farm, Mr. MacEwan pursued the academic side of agriculture, eventually spending several years as Dean of Agriculture at the University of Manitoba until 1951. Two years later, he entered the world of politics, first as a Calgary alderman, then as an Alberta MLA, and in 1963 was elected Mayor of Calgary. From 1965-1974 Grant MacEwan served as Lieutenant Governor of Alberta.

In addition to his academic degrees, Mr. MacEwan has received honorary degrees from the Universities of Alberta, Calgary, Brandon, Guelph and Saskatchewan.

During the course of his career, Mr. MacEwan wrote books, magazine articles, newspaper columns and took on assignments as a public speaker. Today he continues these activities and, in particular, contributes his knowledge, experience and wisdom to the recording of Western Canadian history.
