Ken Read
The portrait of Ken Read was taken at an important turning point in his life-his retirement from the Canadian Ski Team. He was the first Canadian male to win a World Cup Downhill in 1975. He subsequently won other World Cup Downhill races and in 1980 finished second in the world over the season's races. He represented Canada in the Winter Olympics of 1976 and 1980.
Ken was recognized as Canadian Athlete of the Year in 1979 (Lou Marsh Award) and as Calgary Athlete of the Year in 1979 and 1980. He was recipient of the Premier's Award (Alberta) in 1980.
At the time of writing Ken was working towards the completion of his
studies at the University of Western Ontario. He is active in the Canadian
Ski Association and is Chairman of the Athlete's Advisory Council to the
Canadian Olympic Association.
