Laurie Skreslet
At 9:30 a.m. on October 5, 1982, as a member of the 1982 Canadian Mount Everest Expedition, Laurie Skreslet became the first Canadian to climb to the summit of the world's highest peak-Mount Everest.
Laurie was born in Calgary on October 25, 1949. At the time of completion of this book, Laurie lived in the same house in which he had grown up as a child on a quiet street alongside the Bow River.
After high school Laurie spent two years sailing on an American four-masted sailing ship and ships of the Norwegian and U.S. merchant marines. He was introduced to climbing and other elements of mountaineering at the Outward Bound School in Colorado in 1970. Since then his life has been fully occupied with some aspect of mountains or wilderness.
Laurie's climbing interest has taken him to mountains in B.C. and Alberta in Canada; Washington, Colorado and California in the United States; to Scotland and Wales; and to Argentina, Peru and Nepal.
