Big Joe Cardinal, Grouard Mission, Alberta, 1986
When I came by Grouard Mission I saw teepees and tribal flags flying in front of the local school where a demonstration was in process respecting the control of the local school (vocational?). Big Joe, born in 1908, was a local elder. He told me that he had lived from trapping, fishing and boating on the Liard and Nahanni Rivers.
