Frank Gattey, Consort, Alberta, 1986
The late Frank Gattey is seen at his Crossbar home ranch by Gooseberry Lake north of Consort, Alberta. The Crossbar brand can be seen on the barn behind him.
I first met Frank in 1957 when I was an engineer with Dome Petroleum Ltd. I chose a parcel of Gattey land for the location of the Consort Gas Plant. Forty years later the plant is still in operation drawing gas from the Provost and other nearby gas fields. Frank's parents sent him and his brother to school in Stettler, Alberta. In WWII Frank served as an officer in the Canadian navy. He was also a rodeo rider, well known auctioneer and stockman. His wife Kelva predeceased him but they were survived by three daughters, a son and grandchildren.
