Town Office, Granum, Alberta,1988

My parents, Ann and Ned Palmer, were married in this town hall on June 20, 1929. They intended to get married on my father's birthday(June 21st) in Fort Macleod, AB, however, on the drive from Calgary their car broke down near Granum and they had to come in for repairs. The local garage was unable to repair the car the same day and alternative transportation was not available. They had to stay overnight. In those days custom did not permit single people to stay together in local hotels. Fortunately they were able to get a proper official to marry them in the town hall. They arrived in Fort Macleod the next day, already married.
