Sgt Byron Paulson, The Fort Garry Horse
Mr. Paulson was crew commander of a reconnaissance tank which arrived on the beaches from a Landing Craft just below Bény-sur-Mer. He says these smaller, faster tanks had the job of "looking for trouble", mostly in areas where snipers were expected, and would then call in heavier fire-power. Asked about the dangers of crew commanders operating with the top hatch open, he said, "That's how I got a bullet in the face a month or so later at Falaise".
