S/L James Lardie, Canadian Chaplain Service (RC)
The Reverend Lardie says that on D-Day, he was in England lying on his
back looking at the sky and marvelling at the number of aircraft going overhead.
He did not see Normandy until August 14th, and then only from the air, when
he flew on a mission to Falaise with 428 Squadron. (He was Chaplain of 428
and 419 Squadrons). Flying with their squadrons was not the norm for chaplains;
quite the contrary. Father Lardie, though, wanted to see what the men were
going through...and found out. He said, "I was scared silly!"
