Lt-Col W.J. Patrick Styles, CD, The Royal Canadian Corps of Signals

Colonel Styles, (Captain at the time), was Brigade Signal Officer with the 9th Brigade. His Landing Craft was waved off on the first landing attempt because the beaches were plugged, and his crew arrived just before noon at Bernières-sur-Mer, and made their way to Bény-sur-Mer. He remembers crossing an open area near that village where an enemy gun emplacement on his left was firing on Allied anti-tank guns on his right. He says, "They knocked out four in a row."
