Sgt Thomas D. Carney, 1st Battalion, The Canadian Scottish Regiment
Sergeant Carney's platoon officer was badly wounded in the early-morning landing and the Sergeant took over to lead his men through the mine fields until they reached their objective, which was a large chalet. The chalet was taken, then the platoon advanced further to take out a heavy machine-gun emplacement.
