Sgt William C. Betteridge, The Queen's Own Rifles of Canada
Sergeant Betteridge was one of two snipers with "A" Company, Queen's Own Rifles. He landed at H-Hour. His job was to fire into the slits of pillboxes, to keep the enemy from firing back while men carrying grenades attacked. On landing, "A" Company crossed a mined beach, barbed wire, and finally reached its objective, Hill 80, near Bény-sur-Mer.
