The Dieppe Raid on August 19, 1942 lasted only nine hours, but cost
nearly 1000 lives. Don Craigie, Cliff Hooey and Tom Pinder were in the 14th
Canadian Army Tank Regt (Calgary Tanks). Their tank like the others was
stranded on the beach, unable to breach the seawall and fully exposed to
German fire. They ended up as prisoners for the rest of the war ( except
for Tom Pinder who contracted tuberculosis and was released in early 1944).
The photograph was taken in Mewata Armouries in my home city of Calgary.
