
Charles Smith Rutherford, VC,MC,MM, Colborne, ON, 1987
Charles Rutherford was the last remaining Canadian holder of the Victoria
Cross from WWI. He was awarded the honour for his role while in command
of an assaulting party on August 26, 1918 near Monchy-le-Preux in northern
France. He won the MC at Arvillers on August 8, 1918 and the MM at Passchendaele
in 1917. The photograph was taken at his daughter's home near Colborne,
ON in 1988.
