
William M. Stewart, Charlottetown, PEI, 1988
Born in 1898 he served with the 8th Canadian Siege Battery from 1916-1919. Two of his brothers were with him at the Battle of Vimy Ridge in April, 1917. All three were wounded at Vimy. On August 17th 1917 he was gassed and then blinded for 30 days. He returned to his unit January 8, 1918 and continued to Mons and the subsequent occupation of Germany in 1919. He was hospitalized for 6 years from the effects of the gassing. He lived in Boston until retirement and then returned to Prince Edward Island.
