The photograph was taken outside Irvine's home in Victoria, BC.

Irvine Van Horne served as a medic in the 1st Canadian Parachute Battalion. His battalion parachuted onto German troops near Wessel, Germany on March 24, 1945. Irvine's comrade Corporal Topham, another medic, received the Victoria Cross as a result of that engagement. A photograph of the battalion on a parade, on April 24, 1945 in Germany, can be found in the National War Museum. The parade was on the day before Irvine's 19th birthday. Irvine is my cousin.
